Don’t mind me while I write fanfiction about books xD

The day Dictionary met Encyclopaedia for the first time had started like every other day in its life. It had stood on its top shelf silently and deep in thought. Someone had to think about all the beautiful words no one ever used.

Effervescence. - 1) The bubbling of a solution due to the escape of gas
     2) a state of enthusiasm, excitement, liveliness, etc.

Juxtaposition. - the act of positioning close together (or side by side)

To its right were five volume of Comics, chatty and boisterous as usual. They never let Dictionary join in their conversations though. They said it was too grave.

“It’s such a party-pooper”, Volume 3 whispered and rolled its eyes.

“Yeah, a total killjoy!”, Volume 2 agreed and the others snickered.

Volume 5, who stood directly next to Dictionary, shoved it on purpose and pretended it had done nothing. Dictionary sighed and ignored them.

(Later, Encyclopaedia would always hug Dictionary when the Comics bullied it and say, “They just don’t understand you. They hate you because you make them feel stupid. I know their lot, they’re all the same. Don’t let them get to you.”)

For now, the place on its left was empty but suddenly, a big and colourful new book was placed there and it was going to change Dictionary’s life forever with four very simple words and one very beautiful word. Those five words were “Hi, my name is Encyclopaedia” and that’s how it all began.

Dictionary rustled its pages nervously as it felt its heartbeat speeding up. The new book was so intriguing — it seemed intelligent, interesting and genuinely polite. On top of that, Dictionary couldn’t help noticing how handsome it was with its bold lettering and spot coating and… Dictionary mentally kicked himself. It was getting carried away (well, not literally carried away luckily) and it hadn’t even replied to Encyclopaedia’s introduction yet.

“I… I’m Dictionary. Nice to meet you.” It tried to secretly shake some of the dust off that had collected on it. It feared Encyclopaedia would make fun of it for its stutter and nerdy appearance. But instead, it was met with a bright smile and somehow, they ended up talking all day. Dictionary loved to listen to all the things Encyclopaedia knew and wanted to share and Encyclopaedia loved Dictionary’s input when it was trying to come up with the right word to describe what it meant.

“I really like you”, Dictionary murmured when they stood side by side on the top shelf and enjoyed the nightly view of their whole room stretched out quietly below them. On the distant wall, glow-in-the-dark stickers in star shapes gave off a soft gleam. Dictionary thought,

Luminance. - 1) a state or quality of radiating or reflecting light
     2) (Physics) the luminous intensity of a light source per unit area

“I like you too.”

“What?!” Dictionary stared at Encyclopaedia, heart pounding wildly.

“I like the view”, the other said and chuckled.

“B-But that’s not what you said just now, is it? Please say it again”, Dictionary demanded shyly and blushed. Encyclopaedia thought the blush looked exceptionally good on its pale, somewhat faded cover. It decided to tease it a little and said with a playful smile.

“Nope, I won’t say it again. Look it up for yourself, it’s under e like enamouredness.”

Enamouredness. - a feeling of love or fondness

(Later, Dictionary would confide in Encyclopaedia, telling it that everybody usually called it fat and useless. Encyclopedia would kiss it gently and say, “You’re perfect the way you are. I love all of you, all your 2110 pages. If others don’t care enough to see you for who you are inside, they don’t deserve you!”)

For now, Dictionary leaned his back against Encyclopaedia, letting the wonderful warmth of love spread through him, and together they watched the stars glimmer.

Comic Book Volume 5 let out a whistle and started sing-songing, the other four joining in obnoxiously, “Diccy and Ency, sitting in a tree, K I S S I -“

“Can the five of you just shut up? You really have no idea what true love is! I for my part find those two really cute. They are so perfect for each other! It’s like they were meant to be. Oh, when will I meet the one true love of my life?”, Romance Novel swooned on the far right and clasped its delicate hands in front of its flower-scented bosom.

(On the shelf right under it, Thriller’s heart broke a little. It was madly in love with Romance’s voice and would kill to stand next to it on its shelf just for once.)

As Pottermore is a real thing now, anyone have gender neutral alternatives for witch/wizard?

transrage:

I’ve asked a lot of people but have only been given words where male is seen as default, enchanter, sorcerer, ect. These all have female versions so imply male.
